The United States’ Civil War was a conflict of unprecedented scope that brought stories of bloodshed, struggle, and sacrifice to every corner of the nation. Camden’s Historic Cooper Street was no exception. As Cooper Street’s residents were thrust onto the battlefield with millions of other  Americans, those back at home were challenged with responding to absences within their community and contributing to the war effort.
